Modern science is now beginning to recognize the possibilities of essential oils.
René-Maurice Gattefossé, Ph.D., Has been called the father of aromatherapy. During a laboratory accident hr received third degree burns on his hand and forearm. He thrust his arm into a tray of what he thought was cold water. To his suprise, he found it to contain lavender oil, which had an immediate cooling sensation on his skin, and within a few minutes it completely stopped burning. With the frquent application of lavender oil, the burn healed completely without a scar.

Dr. Gattefossé discovered by accident the therapeutic properties of lavender oil.
As a chemist, he analyzed the lavender oil and concluded that it had remarkable healing properties. This stimulated him to research other plants with different healing properties.
Dr. Gattefossé shared his ground-breaking research with Dr. Jean Valnet, a Paris medical doctor, who used essential oils as antiseptics and antibiotics on the battlefields during World War II. After the war, Dr Valnet made essential oils the centerpiece of his clinical practice, carefully documenting his clinical results in what is commonly regarded as the encyclopedia of essential oils.

Dr. Jean Valnet used essential oils as antibiotics during World War II.
His student, Daniel Pénoël, M.D., with Pierre Francomme, Ph.D., wrote the first definitive medical textbook on the science of essential oils.
Many other doctors and scientists have expanded Dr. Valnet's research, including Daniel Pénoël, M.D.; Pierre Francomme, Ph.D.; Jean Claude Lapraz, M.D.; Radwan Farag, Ph.D.; and Dr. Gary Young, N.D. Their research has shown that essential oils have a wide range of chemical constituents, including sesquiterpenes, that have been found to have immune stimulating properties. This research has laid the scientific foundation for aromatherapy and essential oils with health benefits.

Very few people in the holistic healthcare industry are as well educated and qualified as Gary Young. He has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars traveling all over the world in search of knowledge and is one of those rare people whose understanding comes from a keen talent of personal observation. For eight years he has done extensive work in his own clinic and laboratory where he conducted research in preventive medicine.
